What is truffle?

Truffles are a type of fungus that grows underground and lives in symbiosis with the roots of certain trees. Known for their unique taste and aroma, these culinary treasures are often considered a delicacy.

There are several varieties of truffles, the most famous of which are the black and white truffles. Black truffles, which are commonly found throughout Europe, have a rich, earthy flavor. White truffles, which are harvested in the fall, have a richer aroma and flavor, making them highly sought after by chefs around the world.

Truffles are not only delicious, but also a bit mysterious! They grow under specific conditions, usually in limestone soils, and are often hunted with the help of trained dogs or pigs that can find them. This search adds an element of adventure to the truffle’s allure.

In cooking, truffles can be grated onto dishes such as pasta, risotto and eggs or added to oils for an extra flavour boost. Their unique profile enhances any dish, making them a favourite among foodies.

In short, truffles are a luxurious ingredient that adds depth and sophistication to culinary creations, making them a must-have for any foodie!
